Spanning through an analysis of multiple texts, from the pioneers belonging to the Anglo-American culture, to our “actual world” and comprehending also the economic and political spheres, the course aims to provide strong methodological tools following two main paths: 1. An analysis of extracts of the most important innovators in literature using a cultural global perspective concerning the macroscopic environment; 2. Major analysis of the time span that links a sort of fragile “fil rouge” between the two powers England and America, which is not limited to studying, but considers the latest developments in politics, economy technology and AI. Giving the tools to the student to develop his own precious point of view, with a future clear eye also in the workplace, knowing what surrounds him. Strengthening the dialogue between past and present, explaining the innovative phenomena in the human cultural evolution for the past and the present, understanding the complexity of the world we live in.

The course presents some texts and newspaper articles pertaining the Anglo-American literature (short stories and speeches) that exemplify the core narratological concepts students are expected to become familiar with, in order to master the humanities sphere and the world that surround us. The selection of texts paves the way for understanding the development of formal choice in connection with the development of thematic concerns.

Applying knowledge and understanding: Skills will be achieved through lectures, case studies, exercises. Students will be able to: understand the evolution of literature and languages from a cultural perspective - grip the persuasive power of political and cultural texts - recognize the basic narrative situations characterizing narratives and the variants of the current period - recognize these basic narrative situations and the nuances that characterize them in texts they have not yet seen - employ the appropriate vocabulary concerning thematical issues
Making judgements: Students are expected to acquire basic tools for evaluate the level of originality and effectiveness of persuasive communications Communication skills: The course will allow students to acquire an appropriate know-how for the analysis of reading and communication. The lectures and exercizes will allow students to strengthen the communication skills (both written and oral) necessary to fully comprehend the world also through speeches and newspapers.

Requirements: Strong Interest in the Anglo-American world and its interconnection concerning language, culture, politics and society. To get the thesis the applicant must submit a written project including index and basic bibliography
